The bank is not. My debit card was declined when I attempted to pay the bill, despite having the funds. It’s because the amount exceeded the maximum daily limit.

So, I have to wait until Monday, visit the bank to get the limit removed, then head back to the service shop to pick her up.

I also asked them to hold onto a piece of rubber from the original differential cover that was most likely used to protect the bolt heads, as it was absent on the new differential.

Hopefully you can get the limit raised by phone to save you some time. I had to do that when I had work done on my truck.

They don’t have live support available for that on weekends, and trying to raise the limit through IP Relay service is next to impossible. Besides, the shop has closed by now, so I’m going to wait for Monday.

It’s beyond frustrating when banks won’t let you access your own money.

Cashier’s check instead of a limit bump?

Bank’s closed. I can’t do a cashier’s check because the debit card I’d be charging has a $500 daily limit.

Do you have a cash withdrawal limit from a teller?

I’ve had a debit card that was limited, but I could write checks all day and pull out any amount of cash in person... Fix these limits or get a new bank.

This has probably been said already, but...why didn’t they take a regular check?

My bank is closed for the day. It was closed for the day when I went to the service shop. I had no way of getting shit fixed until they open again on Monday.

Mainly because they take time to clear, and service shops have been ripped off by bounced checks (or even forged ones) in the past. I can see why they’d prefer cash or card.

The only time I use my debit card is to get cash from the ATM. Credit card rewards and paying off the balance immediately is the way to go. 2% doesn’t sound like a lot but it builds up over time and builds your credit to an extent. If you use it this way, you don’t even have to worry about the interest rates since you’ll never carry a balance.

No, that’s bullshit. They take the check, verify your ID...if the check is knowingly bad, then they have the full force of your local PD to back them up. The shop only taking certified funds is just a lazy way to do bad business.

I am not quite ready to go full monty on a high-cap credit card.

Sorry that you think that way, but if I were doing business, I wouldn’t be taking checks either. A lot of businesses in this town do not like checks.

I had the same thing happen to me in the same situation. I had a 600 euro repair to pay, but had a 500 euro limit on the card. The shop believed me and everything, but I still felt awkwatd for not being able to pay on the spot (it felt/seemed like I didnt have enough money in the account)

Yeah, it sucks. At least I have night shifts now, so getting shit done during the day is a lot easier.

If it helps swing your decision, most CCs offer greater consumer protection than your bank’s debit card.

I recently opened a new credit card, but its limit is $1,000 because it’s for small purchases — gas, food, et cetera. Reason being, I never really found myself needing to spend such large sums like $3,375 (which is the current car repair bill).

So yeah, I’m just gonna go to the bank, withdraw the cash at a teller, and deliver the payment directly.

I’m just super pleased there’s someone on this website making worse financial decisions than me. I’m gonna have to change my name.

Spending $4k for a dealership to install a reman salvage yard axle in the world’s most common beater vehicle is commonly referred to as a bad financial move.

Here’s an analogy: It’s a bit like paying Geek Squad $900 for a $3 Monoprice HDMI cable because they warranty their work of plugging in your PS4. Sure, I guess it’s maybe worth it in the slim chances that something goes wrong with plugging in a cable but even if it fries the PS4 for that money you could easily buy two more whole PS4s with HDMI cables.

I spend money on dumb shit habitually but I’m still baffled.
